Come and join Women Outdoors hike up Scafell for a challenging but rewarding opportunity to gain some perspective on this remarkable landscape. See spectacular views with our expert Mountain Leader teaching you all about the mountain, its plants, conservation and it’s history.

Whether you are a complete beginner looking to get into Wild Swimming or have previous experience, the following day we will take a small hike to a beautiful mountain tarn to take a refreshing dip.

A detailed itinerary will be sent to all booked guests before the event, with all details needed to attend the weekend. There will also be a WhatsApp group set up prior the event so you ladies can organise car share and get chatting before the weekend trip!

The price does not include lunch and evening meals. For options on evening meals read below.

 

Accommodation: YHA Wasdale Hall

This 19th century country manor is every bit as grand as its name would suggest. This Cumbrian hostel is often cited as a favourite due to the impressive nature of the building, not to mention its breath-taking scenery which has earned the title of ‘Britain’s Favourite View’.

YHA Wasdale Hall is set right on the shore of Wastwater, England’s deepest lake, from the hostel you can see the expanse of the lake plus the awe-inspiring mountains beyond – perfect for getting away from the pressures of everyday life and relaxing in beautiful surroundings.

Women Outdoor ladies will have private rooms with a maximum of 6 ladies per room.

Itinerary 

Day 1 Friday 28th June

5pm onwards: Check in to the accommodation and meet your fellow Women Outdoors guests

6:30pm: Welcome and brief on the weekend from your Mountain Leader Emma

7.30pm: Dinner at YHA Wasdale Hall. Evening meals can either be ordered and paid for on arrival YHA Evening Menu or alternatively you can cook your own meal in the fully equipped self catering kitchen. A menu will be sent out prior to the event.

8.00pm: Get to know each other, relax with a book or head to the bar!

 

Day 2 Saturday 29th June

8.30am: All you can eat breakfast at YHA Wasdale Hall

9.30am: Set off for the climb up Scafell. The hike will be  approximately 6 hours (including a stop for lunch)

3.30pm: Back to YHA Wasdale Hall Pass to shower and celebrate completing the days climb! The relax or head to the bar.

6pm: Dinner. Evening meals can either be ordered and paid for on arrival YHA Evening Menu or alternatively you can cook your own meal in the fully equipped self catering kitchen. A menu will be sent out prior to the event.

7pm: Saturday games night!

 

Day 3 Sunday 30th June

7.30am: All you can eat breakfast at YHA Wasdale Hall

8.15am: Check out and set off for a small hike & optional wild swim

Noon: Say our goodbyes & depart!

 

Payment & Booking

Option 1: Pay in full £199

Option 2: Pay instalments

– 1st instalment 25% deposit (£50).

– 2nd instalment, the remaining balance (£149), due 90 days prior the event.

Please note that deposits are non refundable.

 

What do I need to bring with me?

Walking boots: waterproof and breathable hiking boots with good ankle support

Socks: proper walking socks will keep your feet dry and prevent blisters

Water: Bring plenty of water. At least 1 litre of water for Snowdon

Medication: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor aliments etc

Day Rucksack: something comfortable to wear, 20 litres+

Waterproof bags: keep spare clothing, electronics and anything else dry even when your rucksack leaks by using ziploc type food bags or outdoor activity waterproof bags.

Comfortable clothing: bring layers to let you adapt quickly to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (t-shirt) and a mid layer (micro fleece) and outer layer (jacket)

Trousers: no jeans as they become heavy and cold in the rain, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry. On a warm day shorts are ok.

Waterproof jacket: essential when hiking in all but the calmest of weather, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry.

Snacks: bring biscuits, energy bars, gels, bananas, chocolate or dried fruit for example. Put them in an easy reach area.

Food: bring food for lunch on Saturday and evening meals if you wanted to use the self catering facilities

Hat or cap: stay warm in the winter and shaded in the summer

Sunscreen: can be useful even on cloudy days

Towel: towels are not provided at the YHA

Swimsuit: Please bring a swimsuit for the wild swimming, a towel poncho and water shoes.
