Route Description

Come with us to visit the natural cavern ‘Thor’s Cave’, set in a steep limestone crag, with its huge 10 meter high and 8 meter wide arched entrance. Evidence has been found of human occupation of Thor’s Cave during the latter Stone Age, from around 11,000 years ago, with use well into the Iron Age and Roman period.  Past excavations have found stone tools, pottery, amber beads and bronze items, as well as the burial sites of at least seven people.

In addition to Thor’s Cave our route also includes a walk along a peaceful stream though woodlands and stunning views from the top of the cave out into the Manifold valley.
