Come and join Women Outdoors on one of the worlds finest hiking trails, capturing the wild beauty of Scotland as we pass shimmering Lochs, walk through Highlands, welcoming villages and take in countless views of magnificent mountains. This is Scotland at its best, with an opportunity to do it with a bunch of like-minded women. It will be an adventure you will never forget!
Whilst the West Highlands Way is a challenge tens of thousands of hikers walk the full length each year so is therefor an achievable endeavour. For the most part West Highlands Way uses clear paths and tracks and has little climbing and descending making it one of the most easiest multiday treks in the UK. We are however walking between 9 and 15 miles each day for 8 days (see full itinerary below) so reasonable level of fitness is required. If you have any questions on fitness get in touch with Emma and she will happily chat to you in detail about the required fitness levels Contact Us.
You will be accompanied by Emma who will lead the group and be there to help you along the way so no previous multi-day hiking experience is necessary. We also have a bag carrying service as an optional add on for those wanting to do the hike without the weight.
All accommodation (7 nights) are included in the price and are conveniently situated along the West Highlands Way route! We will be staying in a mixture of hobbit/hiking huts and lodges with a luxury stay at the Iveroran Hotel at the half way mark (day 5). All of our accommodation has electricity, charging points & either has private or shared showers & toilet facilities (see more details on facilities on the itinerary below). Rooms are shared with other ladies in the group but if you would like a private room/s please Contact Us.
You can take your own food or you can make use of the pubs, cafes and local shops to stock up supplies along the way. We will pass amenities each day and all of our evening stop overs have local shops, pubs & cafes.
Day 1 ♥ Sat 23rd August
Milngavie to Drymen (12 miles)
Leaving the lovely town of Milngavie behind we will pass Craigallian Loch and strike across the countryside. On our first night we will be staying in bell tents which have USB charging points, a double bed each and shared showers. Drymen is a lovely place to spend our first night with plenty of good pubs and restaurants.
Day 2 ♥ Sun 24th August
Drymen to Rowardennan (15 miles)
The highlight of this section is the exquisite panorama from Conic Hill. It will be one of the best views of of Loch Lomond and the national park. On our 2nd night we will be staying right on the edge of Loch Lomond at Rowardennan Lodge Hostel. Rowardennan comes with bed and breakfast, shared showers and toilets, dry room, laundry room, cafe, catering & a bar.
Day 3 ♥ Mon 25th August
Rowardennan to Inverarnan (14 miles)
Day 3 will be spent mostly in Loch Lomond forest and national park. We will regularly pass beaches and coves on the Loch edge providing wonderful views of mountains around the water. We will be staying in hiking huts which have heating, electric points, shared showers and toilets, dry room, laundry room, equipped kitchen, restaurant & bar (I can personally vouch for their local whiskey collection!).
Day 4 ♥ Tue 26th August
Inverarnan to Tyndrum (12 miles)
Now at the most northern point of the Loch we will finally leave Loch Lomond behind but most agree that the best scenery of the loch has been reserved till last! The path will take us along the beautiful Glen Falloch until we reach Tyndrum, experiencing a stay in our first hobbit huts! Our hobbit huts have heating, electric charging points, a TV, Microwave, Kettle, Fridge and shared showers and toilets. Our accommodation doesn’t provide meals but there is a local shop and full equipped kitchen to make your own or you can eat at one of the local pubs/cafes.
Day 5 ♥ Wed 27th August
Tyndrum to Inveroran (9 miles)
This is one of the most iconic sections of the West Highlands Way, the views of Beinn Dorain are sublime. The path will take us passed Loch Tulla to our most memorable stay of the trip, Inveroran Hotel! Here we will have ensuite bathrooms, a cooked breakfast and an option to order off their delicious local menu. Their beer and food are excellent!
Day 6 ♥ Thur 28th August
Inveroran to Glencoe (8.1 miles)
This is probably the most remote part of the West Highlands Way. An old drove road leads across Black Mountain, a vast expanse of wild moorland. Other than this clear track we walk along there is almost no signs of human habitation for much of the journey. Instead we will be surrounded by the spectacular mountains, little lochs and endless miles of heather.
Our 6th day accommodation will be in a micro lodge at Glencoe Mountain resort which has stunning views towards the Buchaille Etive Mor and Rannoch Moor. Our lodges will have heating, beds, electrical points, shared shower & toilet facilities, drying rooms, a bar & cafe. Bed linen is not supplied so you will need to use your own sleeping bag.
Day 7 ♥ Fri 29th August
Glencoe to Kinlochleven (10.2 miles)
This sublime route is another highlight of the West Highlands Way. On this route we finally do some good incline which will reward us with quality views that intensify as we gain incline. We will be taking plenty of time to savour the exceptional Highland panorama before reaching our hobbit huts at Kinlochleven. Our hobbit huts have heating, electric charging points, a TV, Microwave, Kettle, Fridge and shared showers and toilets.
There are plenty of places to eat at Kinlochleven including a pub, bothy bar, hotel restaurant and a local chippy.
Day 8 ♥ Sat 30th August
Kinlochleven to Fort William (15.4 miles)
The scenery on the last section of our trip is unforgettable. An easy path winds its way through Scottish slopes of grass and heather, hemmed in by mountains of divine beauty. It is here Ben Nevis makes its appearance, dominating the last 8 miles of the hike.
Our hike will finish in Gordon square of Fort William where there is a statue of a weary traveller to signify the finish of the West Highlands Way. An evening meal will be organised for those that stay in Fort William for the night and accommodation can also be organised at Glen Nevis Hostel.
Fort William is a great base to take on the Climb of Ben Nevis. If anyone would like some information on climbing Ben Nevis please Contact Us
