This is a proper mountain environment and all walk options will be strenuous but achievable for anyone with reasonable fitness.
3 Nights Camping, 2 Days Hiking & Wild Swimming
Come and join us to explore the beautiful mountains and mountain tarns in some of the most scenic parts of the Lake District on May bank holiday weekend. There will be an opportunity for a wild swim on two days along with stunning walks, gorgeous lakes and as always great company with an amazing group of ladies.
A detailed itinerary will be sent to all booked guests a week before the event, with all details needed to attend the weekend. There is also a WhatsApp chat for all attendees to plan car sharing and chatting before.
Price includes costs of the campsite but not food, tent equipment etc. Please see below for what you will need to bring.
Itinerary
Day 1 Friday 26th May
Check in to Low Hollows Campsite followed by a welcome from Women Outdoors and meet the group. After the initial briefing we will all sit together for dinner.
Day 2 Saturday 27th May
Breakfast and get ready to set off on the hike for around 9am.
The hike will be a circular trail approximately 6 hours (including a long stop for lunch) up to the summit of Hellvelyn via Striding Edge and Red Tarn.
The evening will be free time were you will have an option to have a dinner and drinks at the local pub or chill on the campsite for some home cooked food.
Day 3 Sunday 28th May
Breakfast and get ready for the hike for around 10.30am. Todays hike will be much shorter and an optional swim on the route.
The evening will be free time for those that want to camp a 3rd night (there is no extra cost for those what want to camp for the 3rd night) were you will have an option to have a dinner and drinks at the local pub or chill on the campsite for some home cooked food. For those that would like to get in their own beds, can leisurely pack up and say their good byes.
Day 4 Monday 28th May
Before breakfast we can go for one last dip and swim before we say our goodbyes and depart for home.
What do I need to bring with me?
Camping Gear: tent, sleeping and cooking equipment
Walking boots: waterproof and breathable hiking boots with good ankle support
Socks: proper walking socks will keep your feet dry and prevent blisters
Water: Bring at least 1 litre of water
Medication: if you have hay fever, diabetes, minor aliments etc
Day Rucksack: something comfortable to wear, 20 litres+
Waterproof bags: keep spare clothing, electronics and anything else dry even when your rucksack leaks by using ziploc type food bags or outdoor activity waterproof bags.
Comfortable clothing: bring layers to let you adapt quickly to changes in the weather and body temperature. Go for a base layer (t-shirt) and a mid layer (micro fleece) and outer layer (jacket)
Trousers: no jeans as they become heavy and cold in the rain, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry. On a warm day shorts are ok.
Waterproof jacket: essential when hiking in all but the calmest of weather, breathable fabrics are more comfortable and dry.
Snacks: bring biscuits, energy bars, gels, bananas, chocolate or dried fruit for example. Put them in an easy reach area.
Food: bring food for breakfast, lunch and evening meals unless otherwise stated
Hat or cap: stay warm in the winter and shaded in the summer
Gloves: weather dependant
Sunscreen: can be useful even on cloudy days
Dogs
Well behaved dogs are more than welcome, there may be livestock around so they may need to stay on the leads for parts of it.
