Route Description

Although this route is 10 miles we have categorised it as ‘moderate’ given the path is very flat, easy going and there is very little incline and decent on the route. We start by walking past the impressive gritstone Derwent Dam, Derwent Reservoir and Howden Dam. Following the footpath down Cold Side and at our half way point we will reach a pack horse bridge and Slipper Stones. This is our wild swim spot and one of the best wild swim spots in the Peak District.

After our wild swim we will stop to have lunch before continuing the path winding through the woodlands. The path will take us through the remains of Birchinlee, also known as Tin Town. Tin Town was a temporary village which was constructed to house the 1000 workers and their families who built the reservoirs and dams.

Continuing on the path and walking alongside the reservoir we will find ourselves back at the starting point and back at the car park.
