Go back in time in Eyam, a beautiful, historic village (pronounced ‘eem’), in the Peak District National Park which became famous after the Black Death of 1665 and 1666. An outbreak of the plague was contained when the villagers decided to isolate themselves from the surrounding communities. Many people in the village died. Small plaques stand outside cottages detailing the village’s history including names, ages, and date of death of those individuals who died in that specific home during the plague.
The route will also take you on the peaceful moorlands surrounding the village, walking through Riley Woods and over Jumber brook. If you have time you could also visit Eyam Museum which is a good place to visit to learn more about the villages history. A series of information panels, film shows and displays help bring this amazing story of isolation and survival. Check the website for up to date opening times.
All of our hiking leaders hold the relevant qualifications and have heaps of knowledge on the plants, landscapes and history of our national parks. The leader will create a WhatsApp group before the event providing all the information you need and you ladies can also use the group to organise car share and get to know each other.
Kate will be your Mountain Leader. To get to know Kate a little more head to Emma & The Team.
